It's the sale every gamer has been waiting for: the annual Steam Summer Sale. It's live right now, and that means thousands of games are on sale with some deep discounts across the entirety of Valve's digital game storefront.

The sale will run from June 11-20. For this first 24 hour period, gamers can snag games like Valkyria Chronicles for $5, huge discounts on the entire Grand Theft Auto franchise, the Metro game series and much, much more.

Even crazier this year is that the Steam Summer Sale is a video game all its own. Players can join a monster battling RPG called Monster Summer Game where you can help your team level up, learn new abilities and even unlock new discounts by reaching certain milestones. You will also receive Steam Summer Sale trading cards just for playing. These cards can be used to craft the Steam Summer Sale 2015 badge, which will grant you additional abilities and rewards in the game.

The milestones that unlock additional deals will change each day. For day one, having 100,000, then 250,000 and then finally 1,000,000 million people play the Monster Game will unlock an additional sale each. There are also milestones for the total number of clicks reached in the game and the number of bosses defeated on day one.

It's an interesting twist on the summer sale formula. Usually players obtain the majority of their Summer Sale trading cards from voting on sales throughout the day. It doesn't look like there is a voting system in place this year, but all the other ways of earning cards -- crafting badges, purchasing games and trading with friends -- are still here.

With that being said, good hunting. Wait for the daily deals to save the most cash, work towards the community milestones and don't break the bank. Or buy any and every video game under $5 that remotely interests you, like most of us do. Hey, at least now Steam offers refunds.
