Sony's Xperia Z4v is the company's very first smartphone featuring a quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Despite the high resolution screen, the battery performance of the Xperia Z4v is still comparable with that of the Xperia Z3+, also known as the Xperia Z4, which is the device's version in Japan that does not have a quad HD display but rather a 1080p screen.

The two versions of the smartphone are very similar, with the quad HD display and a redesigned body mostly being the differences between the two. The smartphones both pack an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor powered by 3GB worth of RAM, and also feature a 5MP front-facing camera and a 20.7MP rear-facing camera.

The Xperia Z3+ (Z4) [pdf] offers users with excellent battery performance of up to two full days of usage time. The capacity of the smartphone's battery is 2,930 mAh, while that of the Xperia Z4v [pdf] is a bit bigger at 3,000 mAh.

It would be wise to assume that, due to the quad HD display of the Xperia Z4v, the smartphone will not be able to sustain the exceptional battery performance of the Xperia Z3+ (Z4). However, it would seem that this is not the case.

According to Sony, the battery of the Xperia Z4v could allow the smartphone to last longer than the Xperia Z3+ (Z4) in certain situations, such as the Xperia Z4v capable of 20 hours' worth of talk time over a 3G network compared to the 17 hours' worth of talk time for the Xperia Z3+ (Z4). The Xperia Z4v is also expected to last for up to 95 hours when the user listens to music, compared to 91 hours for the Xperia Z3+ (Z4).

In other situations such as standby time while connected to an LTE network or playing back videos, the battery life of the Xperia Z3+ (Z4) is better, but only by a small margin.

With these figures, it can be noted that the battery life of the Xperia Z4v is very much comparable to that of the Xperia Z3+ (Z4), despite the quad HD display that has a pixel resolution significantly higher than its counterpart.

The smartphone is named Xperia Z4v with a "v" in its name that stands for Verizon, which is the only carrier that will be selling the smartphone in the United States. The device will go on sale this summer, but no specific date and price for the Xperia Z4v has yet been announced.
