OnePlus just revealed that the upcoming OnePlus 2 will be the first flagship smartphone to include a USB Type-C port, unless a metaphorical tortoise pops up at the finish line.

The OnePlus 2 hasn't received an official release date, though reports indicate that OnePlus' next flagship phone will launch in July.

While OnePlus has committed to a launch date for the OnePlus 2, the company has been teasing bits and pieces about the parts it has chosen for the upcoming smartphone. The latest bit of information to rush out of OnePlus' official pipeline was news about the OnePlus 2's USB Type-C port -- it has one.

Google and Apple have already released products that include USB Type-C ports, a Chromebook and a MacBook, but OnePlus' implementation of the standard in the OnePlus 2 would be the first smartphone to use it.

USB Type-C, a USB standard with uncertain origins, leverages the USB 3.1 software standard, along with several hardware buffs that helps unified USB devices. USB Type-C carries enough wattage to be used as a charging cables for laptops, it can charge either device at either end of a connection and it's connect heads have no up or down.

Interest in USB Type-C has been global and cross industry, stated Brad Saunders, USB 3.0 Promoter Group Chairman, when the standard was finalized last year.

"Representatives from the PC, mobile, automotive and IoT industries have been knocking down our door anticipating this new standard," said Saunders (PDF).

Elswhere inside of the OnePlus 2, the smartphone will run on an octo-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810, OnePlus announced last week. The company says it collaborated with Qualcomm on the processor to address its heating issue.

"We worked very closely with Qualcomm's engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2, and fine-tuned both hardware and software," said OnePlus in a blog post." The 2 will be 'cooler than ever.'"
