Facebook, Google, and others haven't exactly been shy about their plans to connect what many call the "next billion" people to the internet, and each have been touting plenty of unique ways they plan to accomplish it. Now, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has revealed yet another that he says the company plans to use as part of its Internet.org initiative.

His answer? Lasers. Specifically, a "laser communications system that can beam data from the sky into communities." That, Zuckerberg explains in a Facebook post, would "dramatically increase the speed of sending data over long distances," addressing a key concern about connecting areas where more traditional internet access can prove difficult to implement.

Naturally, the lasers would be of the invisible (and non-death ray) variety, but Zuckerberg posted a few photos of the system with the beams visible for added effect. He also notes this is "just one connectivity project we're working on" and, indeed, is the result of a dedicated "Connectivity Lab" that Facebook has formed to tackle the issue of connecting as many people as possible.
