A homeless man in Victoria, Canada found $2,400 of cash and promptly handed it over to the police.

As if that wasn't enough of a feat - because, hey, let's face it, even many people who are better off than that guy wouldn't have been able to withstand the temptation when faced with so much money - he also later turned down a donation of over $5,000 that had been raised for him in honor of his good deed.

When the homeless man dropped off the money he had found, Police Constable Alex Bérubé issued a press statement looking for the money's rightful owner. In case the owner couldn't be found, the homeless Good Samaritan would have been allowed to keep the cash. However, the story didn't play out quite this smoothly; the lucky owner saw the press release and claimed his lost cash back, which he apparently very much needed. Good for him!

The website Victoria Buzz then posted about the homeless hero and his unselfish deed, causing the story to go viral. Mike Kelly, founder of Victoria Buzz was so moved by the homeless man's honesty that he personally set up a GoFundMe Campaign to raise $2,400 for the penniless humanitarian. Quickly the campaign reached over $5,000.

Enter Constable Bérubé again, who personally set forth to find the homeless man on the streets of Victoria to deliver the well-earned donation. Locating someone without a fixed address is difficult at best, but as a true Canadian Mounty the constable did manage to find our unsung hero eventually.

He was in for a surprise though; the homeless philanthropist politely declined the cash price. Not only embodying the virtue of honesty but that of foresight as well, he instead asked for help in finding a job, but not before pledging - and in writing, no less - that the raised money be donated to a charity. Fittingly, "Our Place" provides food and shelter to the needy.
