For a long time, the only negative press surrounding Batman: Arkham Knight was about how Warner Bros. was handling the game's downloadable content. The story, the gameplay, the graphics — everything was looking great, save for a vaguely defined, $40 Season Pass.

Thankfully, it wasn't long before Warner Bros. revealed what would be included in the game's Season Pass, and fans went from annoyed to excited. While there's still plenty of questionable content bundled into the pass, the Batgirl prequel add-on piqued fans' interest. After all, Barbara Gordon had only ever appeared in the Batman: Arkham as Oracle, the paralyzed technician who aids Batman from afar  — gamers never expected to take control of her.

Now, with the DLC pack's release just around the corner, Warner Bros. is finally shedding some light on what players can expect from A Matter of Family — and it's looking like that Season Pass might actually be worth it after all.

First and foremost, this isn't the linear room-by-room challenges of the Harley Quinn and Red Hood DLC packs: A Matter of Family takes place in its own unique location, complete with side quests and optional objectives. There's quite a bit more content here than other DLC in the Batman: Arkham series — but the scale of the DLC isn't the only thing that separates it from the main series.

Fans should know going in that this is about Batgirl and Robin — as such, the Dark Knight himself won't be playable. There's no telling if Batman will make an appearance, but Warner Bros. has made it clear that A Matter of Family is all about Barbara — at least from a story perspective.

Batman: Arkham Knight's character-switching is back, with players able to switch between Batgirl and Robin while in combat. In the end, players will be forced to take on the combined might of Joker, Harley Quinn and their gang. Speaking of Harley, she'll be back in her classic red-and-black outfit from the Batman animated series. There's no word on whether or not Mark Hamill will be back to reprise his role as the Joker, but considering how much work he did for the core game, it's easy to assume he'll be making an appearance.

Finally, it should be noted that Batgirl won't be just another clone of the Dark Knight. It's obvious that the Harley Quinn and Red Hood packs were created as bite-sized bits of content. As a result, they didn't really stand out from the main game.

That won't be the case with A Matter of Family: Warner Bros. made sure to incorporate Barbara's computer wizardry into the gameplay, meaning that Batgirl will have access to new gadgets both in and out of combat. All things considered, Batgirl's new talents should make for a nice change of pace from Batman's relatively brutal method of problem-solving.

For Season Pass holders, A Matter of Family is right around the corner: the DLC pack will be available on July 14. Anyone without the Season Pass will have to wait another week; the Batgirl DLC will be available on July 21 for $6.99.
