Ian McKellen is definitely no fan of Superman at all, after he recently called the character nothing but a joke. His statement has rattled many hearts.

McKellen made the statement while speaking with UPROXX in an interview about the X-Men and the superhero movies on a whole.

He stated that the X-Men movies are about "something," which he further elaborated as "problems of being a mutant." He then went on to mention that Superman is a joke, a nerd who changes his underpants and becomes a superhero.

Suffice it to say, we found his words quite funny. We do not agree with Mr. McKellen, but the man knows how to tickle the funny bones. Here's an excerpt of the interview:

"Well, [director Bryan Singer] persuaded me. X-Men was about something. Superman isn't really about anything. It's a joke. The nerd changes his underpants and becomes a Superman. That's James Bond: 'Shaken, not stirred,' silly, stupid, British twit ... and then, Action Man! But X-Men is about the problems of being a mutant. And we've all felt we're mutants on occasion. So, that was the hook for me. And don't forget, I didn't have to sign to do any more than one; I'm just doing a movie."

We've long known McKellen to be an active supporter of the X-Men films. He once said the films were superior to every other superhero movie on the planet. Yet again we are not in agreement, but we can say the first trio of X-Men movies has been decent, but the newer ones are far better.

The next film in the franchise is called X-Men: Apocalypse. We've heard that Ian McKellen will never show up in this one.

At the moment, Ian McKellen is promoting his new film Mr. Holmes. It tells the story of an old Sherlock Holmes who must try and solve one final case. Due to his age, he enlisted a young boy to assist him on his journey and solve whatever the case may be.
