Microsoft is on track to publicly release Windows 10 Home on July 29, but it seems users of the OS will be compelled to download and install updates.

Users of Windows 10 for Home will reportedly be unable to turn off updates to their OS.

According to the Licensing Agreement for the final version of the OS build 10240, which has been given to testers, Windows 10 for Home users who agree to the clause in the end-user license agreement (EULA) are inevitably agreeing to get "these types of automatic updates without any additional notice."

Whether you like it or not, Windows 10 will ensure your desktop gets updated by default, and therefore downloads, installs and reboots the machine automatically.

In Windows 8.1, users previously could opt for automatic reboots, choose the reboot time, as well as when they would download and install updates. The option to never check for updates also existed.

Now, such updates will get downloaded and installed on your PC automatically when it is not in use. The PC will be rebooted on its own as well, but you will have the option to reschedule the reboot.

This change proves Windows will soon be seen "as a service" and, as such, Windows 10 will be supported continuously by Microsoft. These updates would encompass not only security patches but also new features for Windows 10.

Users of the Windows 10 Enterprise Edition, however, will be exempt from this change.

A primary concern for Windows 10 Home users is that the forced downloads may bring faulty updates, which they will not be able to control. Moreover, users whose Internet connections are capped will not be able to decide the day when the downloads are done. If users have exhausted their precious Internet usage limit, or are nearing such limit, then they will be in trouble as the feature updates are bound to be heavy files.

Another valid concern would be the possibility that the upgrades could potentially break drivers or apps for handy peripherals such as printers and scanners.

The automated updates will, however, ensure that your PC becomes less susceptible to hacking since your OS will stay as secure as possible. Moreover, no more getting harrowed by people who forget to update their Windows and want to solicit your help!
