Following its debut in the United States, the Axon phone is now looking to make a splash eastward in for the Chinese Market. The phone was announced in a big reveal at the Water Cube in Beijing along with the Axon Watch and the Spro 2 smart projector.

The company hopes to ease its way into the stiff competition in China for smartphones by offering features normally associated with higher-end luxury phones, such as voice control functions, Corning's Antimicrobial Gorilla Glass, 128GB of internal memory which can be expanded to 250 GB, dual-SIM support, and no less than three biometric authentication options for added security.

Adam Zeng, CEO, ZTE Mobile Device addressed the crowd at ZTE's product launch in China.

"Today's launch marks a significant new chapter in product development for ZTE, and the three devices launched today are results of our ongoing commitment to becoming more consumer-centric in the global market," he said. "Following its U.S. debut last week, we are excited to bring our first ever global flagship to China - a market where our aim is to return to being a top-three smartphone vendor within the next three years."

Aside from the Axon phone, ZTE is also launching the Axon Lux, an upgraded version of the Axon. Published spec lists of the phones show they are essentially the same, except for the display and the added biometric features of the Axon Lux, which include a fingerprint scanner, an eye scanner and voice recognition software that allows the user to unlock the phone via voice.

The Axon Lux has a 5.5-inch display with a 2560 x 1440 resolution and has 4GB of RAM. The Axon on the other hand, has a 5.5-inch display with 1980 x 1080 resolution and 3GB of RAM.

Both phones will run on Android Lollipop 5.0 and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor. They will have a battery of a 3,000 mAh, a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Axon phone will be sold at $435 while the higher end Axon Lux will have a price tag of $625.

Although there is no word yet if the Axon Lux will also make it to the U.S. market, following the debut of the company's flagship phone stateside just earlier this month, it's quite possible that we may see the Axon Lux coming to our shores as well.
