While Activision may be showing the PlayStation 4 a little more attention with the next installment of the Call of Duty series, Xbox owners are as loyal as ever to the franchise or Black Ops II, at least. As Microsoft works to support legacy Xbox games on the Xbox One, the company revealed that the most requested candidate for backwards compatibility is Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

The race in the Backwards Compatibility poll is actually pretty close right now, with Black Ops 2 edging out Red Dead Redemption by a few thousand votes. While the voting is close between the current top two games, Black Ops 2 is winning the war in the comments section. Despite being one of the best games in the series, Black Ops 2 is still a Call of Duty game and attracts as much fervor as it does vitriol.

Barring any bizarre setbacks, it would seem that both Black Ops 2 and Red Dead Redemption will be available on the Xbox One soon. Right now, there are just over 20 Xbox 360 games that are compatible with the Xbox One.

"With new games added to the roster every month, now you can play both generations of games on one console. Experience the greatest games lineup in Xbox history - exclusively on Xbox One," says Microsoft. "We can't promise every title will be available, but we're working hard to make as many of your favorite Xbox 360 titles playable on Xbox One."

Microsoft plans to expand the Xbox One's back catalog to 100 games by the holiday season. With Mass Effect and Perfect Dark highlighting a generally lackluster list, the introduction of any of the games from the list of the most requested for backwards compatibility should provide a spark for the console heading into the holiday season and the blockbuster games that will be released during that period.
