OnePlus is going with an invite system for its highly anticipated second device, the OnePlus 2, replicating what the company did for the launch of its first device, the OnePlus One.

OnePlus initially sold its OnePlus One smartphones through a similar invite system, as opposed to the more traditional distribution methods of devices. The company is now sticking with the same selling scheme for the OnePlus 2, despite running into troubles in sending out enough units to its distribution channels for the OnePlus One. Of course, that was because OnePlus did not expect such huge demand for its first device, with million of OnePlus One smartphones sold.

Users looking to acquire an invite to purchase the OnePlus 2 can either receive the invite from a friend that has already purchased the OnePlus 2 or by participating in promotions and contests by OnePlus. To be able to receive notifications regarding possible invites to be handed out, users can subscribe to the OnePlus newsletter, join the OnePlus community through its official forums or follow OnePlus on its social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.

Users can also sign up on a reservation list, which could possibly give them invites to purchase the OnePlus 2 if there are any released invites that are unclaimed.

Once an invite has been acquired, the user has up to 24 hours to purchase the OnePlus 2. It will then take up to 3 weeks before the smartphone is ready to be shipped to the customer.

Users that have purchased the OnePlus 2 will at first receive a few invites to be shared, which they can share within 1 week to 2 weeks. The invites will not be immediately available once a user purchases a OnePlus 2 though, as the invites to share will be rolled out manually depending on the levels of stocks of the device. The number of invites that can be shared will gradually increase as the production of the smartphone ramps up, with users receiving more invites to share as they share more invites.

The OnePlus 2 will pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset and not the Snapdragon 820, but it will be an improved version 2.1 of the Snapdragon 810. The device is also expected to be powered by 4GB of RAM, a USB Type-C port, a 3,300 mAh battery, dual SIM capacity and a 13MP camera.

With such powerful specifications that rival the flagship devices of other smartphone manufacturers, the expected price of the OnePlus 2 is only somewhere between $322 and $450. This is because OnePlus is only looking to provide customers with the most powerful smartphone experience possible, selling their devices at cost.
