IMF agent Ethan Hunt has regained his dominance as the world's top superspy as Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation conquered the box office over the weekend.

The fifth installment of the Mission Impossible film franchise has jump ahead the competition in its opening weekend, raking in around $121 million in international ticket sales. The Tom Cruise-led film nabbed $56 million in the United States and an additional $65 million based on the 40 percent of global markets.

With the latest success of the film at the box office, Rob Moore, vice chairman of Paramount Pictures announced that the franchise is as strong as ever and that Mission Impossible 6 is already in the works.

"We're very happy to be developing this movie with Tom," Moore said. "There's no question that Ethan Hunt deserves another film."

Moore's announcement was quite rare in the film industry as Paramount executives were known to be measured in their approach in publicly alluding to possible future films.

Even as Rogue Nation opened in theaters on Friday, the film studio insisted that its sales tracking only indicated a $40-million opening in the U.S. even as the final figure reached a 40 percent higher mark.

Rentrak senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian said that it is no longer surprising that another Mission Impossible film will be made following Rogue Nation. He said that it would be smart for Paramount Pictures to create another installment in the franchise as the latest film is doing well in the box office.

During an interview last week, Cruise, who plays the film's lead character Ethan Hunt, said that he will return for the sixth installment, which he said could begin filming as early as next year.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation sees Hunt reunite with old IMF team consisting of fellow agents William Brandt (Jeremy Renner), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) in order to take down the highly secretive criminal group known as the Syndicate.

They have to work with Syndicate operative and rogue MI6 agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) to complete the mission even as IMF has been officially disbanded and absorbed by the CIA led by director Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin).
