If you've been waiting on Capcom's Mega Man Legacy Collection, we've got good news: your wait is almost over.

Back when it was first announced, Capcom didn't have a firm release date set for the collection: instead, the publisher opted for the vague "Summer 2015" release window. Now, two months later, Capcom has finally clarified what Summer 2015 actually means: fans can expect to get their hands on the Mega Man Legacy Collection on August 25.

In just three weeks, gamers will be able to relive the Blue Bomber's 8-bit glory on next-generation consoles — though there is one major caveat. The digital edition of the Legacy Collection will indeed launch on August 25... but only for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Anyone waiting for a physical copy of the game or the 3DS version will have to wait.

Capcom hasn't offered any real reason for the physical version's delay, or why it's so long: retail discs won't be available until sometime next year. While it's understandable that Capcom needs time to actually print the discs, the wait until 2016 seems like overkill. The lack of any 3DS launch date – digital or physical – is even more baffling, and the lack of explanation doesn't really help matters.

From Capcom:

"Mega Man Legacy Collection will be available digitally across North America and Europe starting August 25, 2015 for $14.99 on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Windows PC, and early 2016 on the Nintendo 3DS hand-held system. Physical editions of the game will also be available early 2016 in North America for $29.99 on PlayStation®4, Xbox One and Nintendo 3DS. More details regarding the Nintendo 3DS digital release and the physical editions will be confirmed at a later date."

Capcom did release a wealth of new screenshots, including a few glimpses at the collection's behind-the-scenes content. While the borders may be a bit much, it's nice to see that Capcom hasn't messed with the original 8-bit style — there's something so cute about a blocky Mega Man that's easily lost with a more complex art style.

It's a shame that 3DS fans and retail shoppers are getting the short end of the stick, but at least digital owners won't have to wait much longer: the Mega Man Legacy Collection hits the PS4 and Xbox One on August 25.
