A few days after being offered through its makers, the Silver edition of the BlackBerry Passport is now up for sale at Amazon for BlackBerry's suggested retail price of $550.

The silver finish of the said smartphone distinguishes it from other Passport handsets. It has the same, square 4.5 inch screen as other Passport handsets and the hardware QWERTY keyboard.

The BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition brings together the company's latest OS, improved productivity features and an industrial design that was based on user feedback, according said Scott Wenger, global head of design at BlackBerry.

"We strive to deliver products that combine cutting-edge technology with purposeful, globally recognized design, and the BlackBerry Passport Silver Edition is the latest manifestation of this vision," said Wenger.

Encouraged by the original Passport's success in smashing its relatively low sales target, BlackBerry continues to make its case as a player in the smartphone market.

The iPhone 6 sold more in a few hours than the BlackBerry Passport did in its first month out. BlackBerry, once a symbol of status and an icon for security, has been left behind in the smartphone market, but the company's CEO, John Chen, continues to assert that the company can find success once again by cultivating a niche audience of enterprise users.

Bouncing back from a dismal state of affairs, BlackBerry has moved beyond its rebuilding phase and Chen has been driving growth slowly and steadily. Part of the company's struggles in the mobile market may be alleviated if it started to do a better job of selling itself and its products, according to Thomas H. Kee Jr., president and CEO of Stock Traders Daily.

Many people know that BlackBerry was once a popular company, before the reign of Apple. BlackBerry's security technology is a huge selling point and the company hasn't been doing enough to promote it, wrote Kee in an op-ed for MarketWatch.

"All they need to do is make the public (consumers and businesses) aware and they will flourish. It is marketing 101, and if done properly, BlackBerry will once again be a $100 billion company. They are in the right place at the right time, again..."
