Although the official word is that Zac Efron is still in negotiations with Paramount, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson couldn't help but share the news, in a series of tweets, about his possible co-star for the new Baywatch flick on social media.

Set to star in, as well as produce, the big screen adaptation of the iconic 90s television series starring David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson, the Neighbors star is ready to don the trademark red lifeguard trunks.

According to an exclusive post by The Hollywood Reporter, Efron will play a rambunctious new lifeguard who will test the nerves of “by-the-book” veteran lifeguard Johnson. However, both must learn to work together and cooperate to take down an oil tycoon who is threatening to ruin the beach they both love.

Seth Gordon is set to direct the movie which is still being penned by Damian Shannon and Mark Swift.

After years in Hollywood limbo, the Baywatch movie is scheduled to begin production early next year with a release date of 2017 as target.

In the meantime, Efron certainly is keeping his schedule full, having just wrapped up filming Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates with co-stars Adam Devine and Anna Kendrick. He will also begin the promo circuit for his upcoming film We Are Your Friends.

Johnson, on the other hand, who is producing film with his Seven Bucks Productions banner along with his partner Dany Garcia, can't wait to dive into the deep end of the movie, which is being said to have a comedic vibe.

Montecito Pictures and Beau Flynn are also on-board to produce, with Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Greg Bonnan as the executive producers.
