Headphone company Jaybird has released a new set of earbuds called the Jaybird X2. The headphones are the successor to the previous BlueBuds X Sport earbuds.

The earbuds are wireless and designed predominantly with the sportsperson in mind. Jaybird says that the headphones have been completely redesigned to improve both build quality and sound quality.

"Changing the game is about challenging everything we know and accept about the products we design," says the Jaybird website. "X2 rewrites the rules of Bluetooth, delivering a wireless sound you've never heard before in a super-small package with incredible battery-life."

While the new headphones might look similar to the previous generation on paper, there are a number of advantages to the new model. For example, the new earbuds have three different sizes of Comply Sport memory foam, which was previously only available as an aftermarket accessory. The new headphones also include enhanced audio, up to eight hours on a single battery charge and a carrying case. Not only that, but Jaybird has developed an architecture called SignalPlus that is designed to eliminate any signal interference. Last but not least, because of the fact that the headphones are aimed at sports people, they are sweat-resistant.

Another advantage to the headphones is the fact that they are designed to allow for different ways of wearing them. Users can wear them under-ear or over-ear and reduce the length of the cord appropriately through the cord management system. The cord here is one that attaches the two earbuds to each other.

An interesting feature added by Jaybird is the fact that it designed its own audio streaming codec to allow for the best streaming quality possible. The technology is named "Shift Premium Bluetooth Audio," and the company argues that this audio quality rivals the quality found in wired headphones.

"We can't wait to get these to our fans," said Jaybird CMO Rene Oehlerking in a statement. "We've improved on BlueBuds X in every way."

The Jaybird X2 earbuds come in a larger variety of different colors, including Storm – or white, Charge – or neon, Fire – or red, Midnight – or black, Ice – or blue and Alpha – or green. The headphones are available around the U.S. in Best Buy stores or from the company's website. They cost $179.95.
