LG has finally taken the lid off its hyped and talked-about phone, the G3, which has been leaked and revealed ahead of schedule. It offers a very competitive package with top-of-the-line features users have come to expect from the latest iPhones and newest Samsung Galaxies. In many ways it's ahead of the pack.

For instance, it comes with NFC support ahead of the iPhone and also offers the much talked-about Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) support that Apple is said to be working on for its upcoming iPhones. This is in addition to offering top hardware specs and connectivity. The camera, in particular, is interesting because it comes with laser precision. The display is also super sharp.

The LG G3 comes packed with a 5.5-inch Quad-HD IPS display that is capable of 2560x1440 resolution. This is in addition to offering a pixel density of 538 PPI. Its specs also include a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 CPU that is clocked at 2.5 GHz; 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM; 16 GB or 32 GB of internal storage; micro SD card support for additional memory of up to 128 GB; a 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and laser auto focus good for low-light levels; a 2.1-megapixel front camera; and a 3,000 mAh removable battery.

Connectivity includes an option for 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi access, LTE/HSPA+ 21, Bluetooth, and NFC. It also comes with software that includes the latest Android operating system, which is Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Other software features include a "Knock Code," which is a secure three- to eight-point code system based on a four-quadrant pattern to unlock the phone. This adds a layer of security beyond just the four-pin code systems many phones offer. Users can tap anywhere on the screen for the phone to unlock. It also comes with "Smart Notice," which are helpful recommendations and reminders based on the time of day or week, events, status of phone or app usage. The keyboard is also said to be "smart," with adaptive area recognition based on word prediction, user behavior and easy cursor control.

"The smartest innovation in a fast-evolving smartphone market is creating harmony between advanced technology and a simplified user experience," says Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of the LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "LG G3 is the result of our effort to actualize that idea into a tangible product. And we are extremely pleased with the result."

The phone is starting to roll out right now across more than 170 carriers worldwide, although it is first launching in South Korea. It will also be available in five colors that include metallic black, silk white, shine gold, moon violet and burgundy red. Readers can check out LG's product page for the phone to learn more and watch for pricing details as they become available.

So the main reasons the phone stands out from the pack and could beat Apple and Samsung right now is its use of optical image stabilization in the camera along with laser auto focus; its smart software features; and its great connectivity options, ranging from NFC to LTE. The phone really offers many things ahead of rivals that were only announced by them for upcoming phones.
