As more and more people become connected to their devices, the dangers brought by too much exposure to electromagnetic radiation seem to have escalated in recent years.

Some people may be unaware of the harm caused by carrying a mobile device in their pocket all day. However, research shows that there is a considerable amount of evidence to prove the link between mobile devices and the decreased fertility level among males.

Despite the issue being a highly debated topic, Joseph Perkins, a London-based scientist, decided to create and release a new line of underwear designed to protect men from the radiation.

"Like so many people, my smartphone and laptop use has increased dramatically in recent years, which made me realize that I was exposing myself to large amounts of electromagnetic radiation, mostly centered on my groin," said Perkins.

In 2014, Perkins launched an Indiegogo campaign to earn some funding for the production of his new line of underwear, which is now available for purchase. Dubbed Wireless Armour underwear, the smart underwear for men is designed with a mesh of pure silver woven inside a fabric and is said to provide protection against electromagnetic radiation by up to 99.9 percent. The silver component, which comes in thin threads, creates a disruptive effect to the flow of electromagnetic radiation since silver is known to be a conductor of electricity. The result is an even distribution of the radiation around the mesh.

Moreover, silver helps to strengthen the underwear and provides an antimicrobial function. This means that apart from its anti-electromagnetic radiation component, the underwear is also bacteria-proof and can continue to smell fresh for a long time.

A study in Argentina involving some sperm samples reveals that even a short exposure of four hours to Wi-Fi-enabled laptops is enough to destroy 25 percent of a male's total sperm count.

According to the World Health Organization, there is a possibility that electromagnetic radiation causes cancer in  humans.

"Wireless Armour is designed to protect the health of a wireless generation glued to their mobile devices," said Perkins. "We are exposing ourselves to unprecedented levels of electromagnetic radiation and this is showing with our declining sperm counts and increasing cases of cancer."

The Wireless Armour underpants are priced between £24 and £35 (around $37.55 and $54.76) and can be purchased online by visiting www.wirelessarmour.co.uk. Consumers can choose between pairs that provide 180-degree protection or 360-degree protection.
