Avalanche Software's Mad Max is an open-world game, but the size of its post-apocalyptic world has been a mystery — that is, until now.

Mad Max's map has no limit, and will run at 1080p resolution on both PS4 and Xbox One.

Avalanche Software's senior producer, John Fuller, confirmed the HD resolution in an interview with Gaming Bolt, and also revealed just how limitless the open world is.

"There are no finite limits to the map... in other words, there is no 'one side'. You can continue driving into The Big Nothing until you get bored or killed," he said.

The Mad Max video game features the ability to combat enemies, as well as vehicle customization of the Magnum Opus — an aspect that publisher Warner Bros. says makes up 60 percent of gameplay.

The limitless map includes multiple regions that are controlled by their own warlords and feature their own backstorys. Defeating the warlord will reduce the threat of attack on the main character.

It's when players drive past the borders of the map, they enter The Big Nothing — the desert that is flatter and more desolate than the various regions. Just be careful of the sandstorms that ripped Max and his vehicle to shreds.

"Our tech can support enormous worlds but it is always a case of balancing the density of content and travel distances so that the player feels they are in a rich world," Fuller said.

Fuller also revealed that the Magnum Opus can be used not just as a means of transportation, but also as a weapon and shelter.

PS4 gamers will be able to further customize the car with 12 hood ornaments, such as Lord Humungus' hockey mask as seen in the 1981 film Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior. The ornaments will be exclusive to PS4 players until November 30.

Warner Bros. Interactive previously released a TV commercial for the third-person action, open-world game that shows just how action-packed the video game is.

Mad Max will be released on September 1 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
