Scosche has been making wireless speakers and other audio equipment for a long time, and now the company seems to be making waves in sports equipment, too.

Of course, it's not giving up audio. It's just combining the two. Scosche has recently unveiled a new water bottle-shaped speaker that has a built-in Bluetooth speaker. The device is called the BoomBottle+, and it is sized to fit most water bottle cages for bicyclists.

"This rugged beauty includes exceptional features like two 50 mm high-quality speakers, dual pairing for true stereo sound, switchable equalization (EQ) for sound enhancement outdoors and a powerful, internal rechargeable battery for you to charge your mobile devices from the speaker," says the company on its website.

While the water bottle-shaped speaker is designed for use in a bicycle cage, that doesn't mean that it can't be used anywhere else. You might think it would be weird to combine the two, if not just because it's a weird combination, then because of the fact that water and dirt could damage a speaker. Fortunately, the speaker is both water- and dust-resistant. If it does end up in a pool or lake, it is designed to float so that it can be retrieved easily.

The BoomBottle+ is an upgrade to the BoomBottle that was released by the company a few years ago, and includes a larger battery (6,000 mAh) that allows it to be used for 50 percent longer on a single charge. According to the company, the speaker will last for 15 hours on a charge. Large front buttons make it easy to skip tracks and adjust volume. It comes with a carabineer clip, which is good for hooking it to a backpack, as well as with a 12W / 2.4A USB wall charger and USB charging cable, and its bottom mount is compatible with tripods.

One of the main advantages to using a speaker instead of headphones is the fact that the user can stay aware of their surroundings, and will be able to hear things like traffic.

The BoomBottle+ is now on sale and costs $179.99, and is available in Sport Blue, Black/Gold or Black/Space Gray color options. It can be bought from the Scosche website.
