Microsoft and 343 Industries have just revealed an action-packed opening cinematic for Halo 5: Guardians, ahead of the game's official release exclusively for the Xbox One.
The trailer doesn't feature Master Chief, the Halo series protagonist, as it focuses on James Locke, the leader of Fireteam Osiris, along with his Spartan-IV squad. The opening cinematic also features the digital version of Nathan Fillion, ready for some heavy Halo action alongside Locke and Fireteam Osiris as the UNSC briefs them on their mission.
Massive atrocities of Forerunner origin have affected five different colonies in the past 72 hours, the briefing notes, and Doctor Catherine Elizabeth Halsey claims to have valuable information on the attacks. The Doctor, who created the Spartan warrior program, is now in custody and Fireteam Osiris has to go on a rescue mission, infiltrating enemy lines and bring Halsey back to safety.
The team descends from high up in the atmosphere on a planet swarming of enemies, both Promethean and Covenant. The trailer shows Fireteam Osiris destroying everything on their way, while also highlighting how each member of the team has their own distinctive role and contribution to the mission.
Action-packed combat scenes reveal the exciting gameplay that will soon fill Halo fans with loads of adrenaline, further boosting excitement ahead of the big Halo 5: Guardians launch next month. Anticipation is already building up and the latest trailer hints at great things to come.
As a reminder, Halo 5: Guardians will make its commercial debut on Oct. 27, launching exclusively for Microsoft's Xbox One video game console. In the campaign mode of the game, the player always has three Spartans around ready to receive commands. Other players can control these three Spartans as well, turning it into a co-op experience.
The upcoming Halo title will boast more than 20 multiplayer maps at launch and developer 343 Industries promised to add 15 other maps after the game's launch. Moreover, by June 2016 343 Industries will also offer free downloadable content packs, albeit they will require an Xbox Live Gold subscription.
Lastly, it's worth pointing out that Halo 5: Guardians will not come with a split-screen mode, to the disappointment of some fans of the series.
