Oppo has started to take pre-orders from United States customers for the Oppo R7 Plus, which is the newest smartphone by the China-based smartphone manufacturer.

The Oppo R7 Plus is a phablet which is described as a device that fills up the gaps left by the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

While the Galaxy Note 5 was released with a smaller battery and lacks a microSD card slot, the Oppo R7 Plus addresses these concerns within its all-metallic, unibody enclosure.

The pre-orders can be coursed through the Oppostyle online store, at a price of $499. Customers, however, can avail of a 10 percent discount by utilizing an email promo code.

The device is available in a gold color scheme and will be shipped with an iLike Bluetooth in-ear headset that comes free with the Oppo R7 Plus for all customers who preorder the phablet. The pre-ordered units are expected to start shipping by the end of September, so customers who send in their pre-orders will not have to wait that long before they receive their new smartphones.

The Oppo R7 Plus features a 6-inch, 1080p display and is powered by a 64-bit, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and an Adrene 405 GPU with 3GB worth of RAM. The phablet also packs a 13MP rear-facing camera, an 8MP front-facing camera and a fingerprint sensor.

The phablet will also come with a VOOC Rapid Charger, which will be able to charge up the Oppo R7 Plus with enough power for a 2-hour phone call after only 5 minutes of charging.

Addressing the shortcomings of the Galaxy Note 5, Oppo included a microSD card slot for the device to supplement the 32GB of internal storage that the device offers, along with a massive 4,100 mAh battery.

The Oppo R7 Plus uses ColorOS 2.1, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. However, the device does not support LTE bands in the United States, with it only being usable on AT&T and T-Mobile, which is a major limitation.

Mobile phone news website GSM Arena, in fact, stated that even with a 10 percent discount, the price of $499 for the Oppo R7 Plus is overly ambitious, given the mostly mid-range specifications of the smartphone. In comparison, the same price can allow customers to purchase an LG G4, a Moto X Style or a Google Nexus 6, among other choices.
