If you're a Doctor Who fan and just happened to see the cover art from The Amazing Spider-Man #4 by Alex Ross, you'll notice immediately that the face of 12th Doctor, Peter Capaldi, appears in the drawing.

Of course, most Doctor Who fans know that before he became the Doctor, Capaldi starred in a BBC series called The Thick Of It as the foul-mouthed Malcolm Tucker. And in fact, this cover is actually not the Doctor at all, but the character of Tucker, as portrayed by Capaldi.

But that's not all. The cover actually features Capaldi's co-stars from that series as well, all of them riding on a traditional red British bus that Spider-Man gets knocked up against while fighting an unknown enemy.

Here's the artwork:

Ross also released another image of cover art from The Amazing Spider-Man #5 that he drew for Marvel.

Ross is most well-known for his realistic illustrations that often end up as cover art on comic books for both Marvel and DC. He has also drawn covers for TV Guide, as well as promotional art for the Academy Awards and covers for video games. He's even had some of his drawings translated into action figures of superheroes.

"His visual trademarks (many learned from his mother, a commercial artist) are instantly recognizable: photorealistic drawing finished with painted colors, iconic poses, and a Norman-Rockwell-meets-George-Pérez vibe that grabbed a lot of fans in the 1990s," wrote the A.V. Club. "Ross became one of the richest men in the business, and sparked interest in the comics medium from new fans, which is a wonderful thing; he's also a flawless draughtsman, and can't be slighted for his innovative painting style."

Marvel announced the relaunched version of The Amazing Spider-Man back in June. The Amazing Spider-Man #4 and #5, with Ross' covers, come out later this year, in December.
