HTC will apparently unveil new Butterfly 3 and One M9+ versions at its Sept. 29 event, not the much-rumored One A9 (Aero) as previously thought.

Considering that Google has a big event scheduled for the same date, it would make sense for HTC to save its bigger news for a later date. Google is widely expected to take the wraps off two new Nexus smartphones, one made in collaboration with LG and the other with Huawei, and it will surely cast a wide shadow over other announcements on the same day.

The HTC One A9 (Aero) has leaked extensively as of late and stirred plenty of interest already, but Google could easily steal HTC's thunder if the One A9 makes its debut at the same time as the two new Nexus smartphones.

Consequently, the latest leak from ROM developer and trusted tipster LlabTooFeR claiming that HTC will unveil an updated One M9+ and a China-exclusive Butterfly 3 on Sept. 29, sounds plausible. Neither of these two smartphones are actually new devices.

The HTC Butterfly 3 made its debut back in May this year, launching as an exclusive to Japanese carrier KDDI. If the latest leak turns out to be accurate, HTC will reannounce the Butterfly 3, but this time as an exclusive for the Chinese market. The tipster makes no mention of specs, but no major changes are expected over the existing model.

As a reminder, the HTC Butterfly 3, or J Butterfly, comes somewhere between the One M9 and One M9+ in terms of specifications. The handset sports a 5.2-inch QHD display (2,560 by 1,440 pixels), a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel rear camera, a 13-megapixel front shooter and a 2,700mAh battery among the highlights. The China-only version should sport similar specifications, although it could replace the Snapdragon SoC with a MediaTek chipset.

LlabTooFeR doesn't offer any details regarding the updated HTC One M9+ either, other than the fact that it's dubbed Hima_Ultra_R1 and will debut on Sept. 29. The existing HTC One M9+ is already available in Asian and European markets, so this purported updated version could make its way to more global markets, including the United States.

The HTC One M9+ is a larger and more powerful variant of the One M9, sporting a 5.2-inch QHD screen (2,560 by 1,440 pixels), an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel Duo rear camera system, an UltraPixel front shooter and a fingerprint reader.

HTC has yet to make an official announcement, however, so take this leak with a grain of salt. Sept. 29 is just around the corner and we'll soon get the official scoop straight from the source.
