From what fans have gotten to see so far, it looks like a lot of Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens will take place on the desert planet Jakku. We've seen most of the film's major characters on the planet (including a certain smuggler and his furry companion), and much of the trailer footage seems to focus on Jakku.

And yet, despite all this, fans still don't know much about Jakku. It's clear that some sort of massive battle went down, but all we've seen so far are old Star Destroyer husks and a single downed X-Wing. Fans have only ever caught a glimpse of the desert planet's surface — but that's about to change.

A new virtual reality video, posted by the official Star Wars Facebook page on Wednesday, gives fans their best look yet at Jakku. While it's eerily similar to that other Star Wars desert planet, Jakku has clearly seen the effects of the war between the Republic and the Empire — and, for the first time, we get to see it all up close.

First and foremost, Star Wars fans can finally get a true sense of the Star Destroyer's immense size: until now, Star Destroyers have always been shown sitting in space next to other massive ships, without any relatable point of reference. The crashed Star Destroyer, by contrast, looms over the viewer like some monolithic tombstone — if this is the sense of scale that fans can expect for Episode VII, there's one more reason to look forward to December.

The video also gives fans a look at the scavengers of Jakku, with multiple skiffs passing by the viewer... and some look a little less than friendly. Is this what Rey was fleeing from in the first trailer?

Despite only ever seeing a few seconds here and there, fans were excited to see what Jakku was all about — now, after taking a closer look, there's even more to get excited about.

Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens hits theaters on December 18.
