Good times are coming for the Android users who expect Google to launch the LG Nexus 5X next Tuesday, Sept. 29: the smartphone just got a green light from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Friday.

The information from the FCC corroborates with the Amazon listing that stayed on the retailer's webpage earlier this week, which suggests the LG-H790 and LG-H791 are the two versions of Nexus 5. Why two models? One is targeted at the international market and the other is set to reach U.S. users, for whom a vast array of wireless bands will be available, including Verizon. The mobile data provider has kept a steady partnership with Nexus phones over the past years.

While international LG fans will enjoy the LG-H791, those in the United States will get their hands on the LG-H790 and use it on all carriers, including Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon. The LG-H791 is more likely to behave like a GSM phone, as it is missing the CDMA compatibility of the U.S. version.

The fact that LG-H790 supports BC0, BC1 and BC10 CDMA bands means that both Verizon and Sprint networks will work on the phone. T-Mobile and AT&T require WCDMA bands 2, 4 and 5 as well as GSM 850 and 1900, and they are all checked in the FCC review list. The Commission confirms that every LTE band will be covered as well.

Here is a more systematic look at the wireless bands for the LG Nexus 5X.

LG H790 (U.S. handset):

–FD-LTE: Band 2 (1900 MHz) / 4 (1700 MHz) / 5 (850 MHz) / 7(2600 MHz) / 12 (700 MHz) / 13 (700M MHz) / 17 (700 MHz) / 25 (1900 MHz) / 26 (850 MHz)

–TD-LTE: Band 41 (2500 MHz)

LG-H791 (international phone):

–TD-LTE: Band 2 (1900 MHz) / 4 (1700 MHz) / 5 (850 MHz) / 7(2600 MHz) / 17 (700 MHz) / 26 (850 MHz)

–FDD-LTE: Band 41(2500 MHz)

In terms of connectivity, the handsets are compatible with Bluetooth 4.2 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual band, NFC and hearing aid devices. It has a size of 146.9 by 72.5 mm, or around 5.8 by 2.9 inches. The LG-H790 has a 5.2-inch display. Strangely, LG-H791 seems to be a slightly smaller version because it is described as measuring only 146.1 by 72.2 mm, or close to 5.7 by 2.8 inches, with a 4.4-inch screen.

It is probable that this is just a transcription mistake, as it is unlikely that LG would launch two smartphones so similar in size, but with almost identical specs. The Nexus 5X is promised to come with a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 MSM8992 system, a CPU frequency of 1.8 GHz, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB to 64 GB of storage and a 2,700mAh non-removable battery.
