Facebook has suffered its third outage in a matter of less than two weeks, with both the app and the website going down for many users on Monday afternoon.

It's unclear exactly how many users were affected by the outage, but it certainly appeared to be a widespread issue. According to a Facebook spokesperson, the outage was due to a "configuration issue."

"We're currently restoring Facebook services that people had trouble accessing earlier today due to a configuration issue. We're working to bring things back to normal for everyone. We apologize to those who have been inconvenienced," said the spokesperson in an interview with Mashable.

This particular issue seems to have started at around 3 p.m. EDT.

Suffering three outages in 11 days certainly isn't good for Facebook, and caused many users to turn to other social media networks like Twitter to complain about the issue. The first issue was on Sept. 17, with the second being on Sept. 24.

Hopefully we won't experience any more Facebook outages, but if more do occur Facebook could have a serious consumer trust issue on its hands.
