Samsung's current flagships are rumored to receive an update anytime soon and it looks like it will be the upcoming Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Samsung is said to be preparing a major update for its current flagships that include the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+ and the Galaxy Note 5. While a number of speculations are being made on the nature of the update, it is highly likely that the next update will be bigger than the ones that are normally released.

The rumor was first leaked by SamMobile, which mentioned that the electronics company is releasing a major update for the latest Galaxy devices.

"At this point all we know is that the next update for the four devices will be bigger than the usual updates we see every now and then," said SamMobile.

Since the abovementioned devices from Samsung are all equipped with the latest Android OS version 5.1.1 Lollipop, it only means that all are capable to receive the new and upcoming OS which will officially carry the moniker "Marshmallow."

The upcoming Android OS is expected to officially release on Sept. 29, 2015. On this same date, Google is also expected to launch two new Nexus devices which had been previously reported to be known as the LG Nexus 5 2015 and the Huawei Nexus 6 2015.

The release of the two Nexus devices on the same date that Google is releasing a new Android OS is understandable, considering that it is usually the Nexus handset that gets an update ahead of other Android devices. Users of other Android handsets should remember that the timing involved in the release will depend on the carrier or the mobile device manufacturer.

Android users who are getting the latest OS update in their devices should expect to see a number of changes that include a "user-facing" app permission controls and the change to API level 3. The latter, according to Android Pit, will be able to bring in stock fingerprint scanner support that is needed for the security feature of Android 6.0.

Another speculation is saying that the Galaxy Note 4 will also receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update sometime in the near future. Other devices that are getting the new Android OS include the Nexus 5, 6, 7 (2013), 9 and the Nexus Player.
