On Sept. 29, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS was ready to upgrade the operating systems of Sony's phones M2 Dual, Xperia M2, and M2 Aqua. The update for the Lollipop OS is already working on other Sony models, such as Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, T2 Ultra and C3.

Until now, Xperia M2 worked on Android 4.4.4 KitKat OS, and the dated operating system caused a lot of problems for its users. They should appreciate the improved aspects and capabilities of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which is promised to provide superior performance on the devices receiving it.

Notable additions are:

  •  A revamped look that relies on Google's material design.
  • More ways to customize your phone- provides better control over volume, silent modes and alerts.
  • LinkedIn integration works closely with the Calender app. It connects the scheduled meetings with data from the professional social media, so everyone's plans get synchronized for better business performance.
  • SmartWear integration - owners of SmartWatch 3 may take better selfies, because the smartwatch can now act as a remote shutter button.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are now easier to reach through the shortcut menu.

For users who were victims of the StageFright vulnerability, it is worth knowing that the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is taking care of it. StageFright worked in a simple way: users received an MMS from a hacker and, upon opening it they were unknowingly granting him total access to their phone. That huge breach allowed malicious people to steal your personal information and confidential data, such as contact lists, messages, photos or videos.

The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will be released for other Sony devices as well. A short list comprises Xperia Z4, Xperia Z3+ Dual, Xperia Z3+, Xperia Z3, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z and Xperia Z2.

If you want to see whether an update is ready for your Android device, you can go to Settings>About Phone>System Update>Check for updates. A good idea to conserve mobile data is to download the update when you are in range of a Wi-Fi network. Also, it is best to have your phone charged at 70% or more when installing the update, so you don't face the risk of it shutting down during the process.
