Sony's latest "mini" flagship smartphone, the high-end Xperia Z5 Compact, is now available for purchase in a number of countries.

The Xperia Z Compact line raised the bar in terms of what small smartphones have to offer, offering better specs compared to other handsets of the same size. While "mini" versions of flagship smartphones typically come with watered-down specs, Sony made little compromises with its Compact range.

The Xperia Z5 Compact is the latest in the company's line of smaller smartphones and continues the tradition of packing high-end specs into a compact form factor, as the name itself suggests.

For those unfamiliar with the handset, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact features a 4.6-inch display with an HD resolution (1280 x 720 pixels), an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable storage, a 23-megappixel rear camera with 4K video recording capabilities, a 2,700 mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner, among the highlights. The smartphone runs Android Lollipop out of the box and is also water-resistant with IP68 certification.

"For those who prefer a compact smartphone, Xperia Z5 Compact brings the same great camera technology and features in a pocket-friendly compact device. It delivers uncompromised performance in a beautifully compact design with a 4.6" display, perfect for one-handed use," Sony touted in a press release in early September, upon announcing its new Xperia Z5 lineup. "And, Z5 Compact lets you express personal style with fresh, vibrant colours including Yellow and Coral, in addition to White and Graphite Black."

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact has yet to make its debut in the U.S., but Sony has now launched the smartphone in a number of countries in Europe. In the UK, for instance, the handset is available SIM-free for £449.99 (roughly $680, or €609), or on various plans with a carrier contract. Carphone Warehouse offers the Xperia Z5 Compact in three color options - white, black and coral.

In addition to the UK, the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is also available for purchase in Sweden, Italy, Spain and Poland, straight from the Sony Mobile Store, carrying a price tag of roughly €599 off-contract.

No details are currently available regarding when the Sone Xperia Z5 Compact will launch in the U.S., but the company is expected to offer more availability details shortly.
