A woman who had her iPhone drop into the Atlantic Ocean thought it was lost forever. A helpful dolphin, however, retrieved the device and handed it back to its owner.

Teresa Cee is a dancer for the NBA's Miami Heat. Miami's close proximity to the Bahamas allows its residents the luxury of visiting the set of islands fairly easily. One of the Bahamian islands known as Blue Lagoon is known for allowing visitors to swim and play with dolphins and sea lions.

Cee was on just such a jaunt, interacting with the sea mammals, when the unexpected happened. She asked someone next to her to hold her iPhone for a moment, and that person promptly dropped the device into the water, where it fell to the bottom of the ocean.

"We were filming on this floating platform in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. So, against my better judgment I asked someone to hold my phone for me and he accidentally dropped my phone into the water and it sank to the bottom," Cee explains.

Enter Cacique, a particularly sensitive and helpful dolphin who witnessed the phone dropping, dove to the bottom of the ocean where the device was located and popped out of the water, happily returning the phone to Cee with a gleeful squeak.

Dolphins are known for being smart, but the full extent of their intelligence is still unknown. Recent reports indicate that dolphins may have a sixth sense, which humans don't possess.  A dolphin's limbic system, the same area of the brain in humans that corresponds to emotions, has evolved to become extremely large over time.

"There's a jubilee of tissue packed into this area, an exuberance of gray matter that scientists believe relates to all things feeling — and no other mammal has anything quite like it," according to Susan Casey, dolphin expert and author of the book "Voices in the Ocean," which aims to explore the relationship between dolphins and humans.

Is it possible that Cacique had somehow sensed Cee's dismay at losing her device, which triggered the mammal to go retrieve it? One thing's for sure, Cacique could use anther sense — sight — to witness the joyful smile on Cee's face upon the return of her iPhone, and so can you in the video below:
