Justice League #44 is out and, from what we have read, some fans might be shocked to find out that a major character has kicked the bucket. We knew that someone had to die, but who knew it would have been this someone?

Who are we talking about? No one other than Darkseid. Yes, Darkseid is dead, or so it seems because he could very well return in the next issue with a greater plan to take down his enemy.

So, what happened? Well, Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor were at war. Both god-like beings were beating away at each other while the Justice League tried to figure out how to put an end to this madness before it could escalate.

Green Lantern and Batman set out to locate the origins of the Anti-Monitor in order to gain more information. During the progression of the story, Darkseid believed he finally learned everything he needed to know about the Anti-Monitor, but he was wrong.

The Anti-Monitor quickly turned the tide of battle by firing The Black Racer directly into Darkseid, and it blasted right through him. Darkseid fell to the ground, looking like a complete mess. The character is one of the strongest in the DC Universe, but we are not sure if he could survive that.

Darkseid has died several times in the past, but this time it was shocking because he was probably the only one powerful enough to face off against the Anti-Monitor. We believe he might return in issue #45 at some point in the story.

We suspect our heroes will find a way to heal Darkseid of his wounds and prepare him to get back into the fight. Then again, maybe the writers, this time around, will stick to their guns and allow Darkseid to stay dead for a few months or even a few years.
