Rumors say that BMW is planning on rolling out a 9-Series Coupe. The Munich-based carmaker is considering a range-topping coupe, potentially rivaling Mercedes Benz's S-Class Coupe known as the CL-Class just until recently.

Reportedly named the 9 Series, this upcoming vehicle will allegedly be built using the next-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom as its platform, essentially developing a modified version. BMW isn't going to skimp on its size, as the 9 will be pretty large, but in terms of its weight, the car will be made up of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP), aluminum and ultra-high-tensile steel to stay light, not to mention that the carmaker is said to fit it with suicide doors as well.

Rumors continue to say that the 9 Series' design is partly based on the 2016 BMW 7-Series and the Vision Future Luxury Concept, which was featured at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show.

As part of its alleged design, the 9 Series will come with two 3.0-liter straight-six engines or a diesel- or gasoline-powered engine. Midrange models will have a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 or a V12 under their hoods. Reports also say that the 940e, which is a gasoline-electric hybrid, is going to be available.

Now for inside the 9, it will be equipped with similar technologies and luxurious features that the 7 came with, such as heated armrests, an infotainment system that can read gestures and remote-control parking.

With trims and materials of higher quality, the 9 will definitely make its mark when it hits the market. BMW is yet to say any word regarding the alleged specs, but the company doesn't seem to be vocal about denying them either, which means that consumers can expect the 9 to come as reported or something similar. However, rumors of a range-topping BMW are not new to the auto industry, and most of them never happen at all.

If the stories hold true, consumers can expect the BMW 9-Series to be presented in 2017 and available in 2018.
