When Fox announced that 24 will be getting a reboot, it was easy enough to assume Kiefer Sutherland would be on board. The actor, who played counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer, was back at the scene for the spin-off 24: Live Another Day but has said that, while he doesn't rule out a cameo, "24 is definitely over now for me."

24 ran from 2001 to 2010 and had a huge following. Sutherland called the show one of the greatest gifts he's been ever given as an actor, which changed his outlook on acting. He describes his experience with the show as unbelievable but the best thing about it was being able to do something that people actually watched and enjoyed.

"The most significant thing was that it was accessible to a lot of people and to know they enjoyed it was so rewarding for me," he said.

But, Sutherland said 24 is now moving on without him and he wants to pursue other things. He still wants to do more television, however, saying that there's no better medium than television available at the moment so he's keen on looking for more projects, and essentially repeating his experience, if possible, with the show.

He's well aware that it may take some time though, meaning he'll have to work less. This doesn't deter him though, instead making him excited to wait for something worth it.

Evan Katz and Manny Coto are writing the script for the 24 reboot, with Howard Gordon, the show's longtime producer supervising. With Sutherland out of the picture, the reboot will reportedly center on a young, male operative who will be partnering with a more seasoned, female agent.

Sutherland's absence will definitely have an impact but his might not the only one felt, as Gary Newman, Fox CEO and chairman, hinted at the possibility that none of the old characters will be coming back permanently for the reboot, which means a total reset at least in terms of characters.

Fox intends to launch the 24 reboot as a limited-run series like Live Another Day but reports say that a longer-term project is not completely out of the picture yet.
