Controversy in the political arena is not a new occurrence, but when it's about a Florida Senate candidate slaughtering a goat and drinking its blood, it's definitely news.

The 32-year-old lawyer Augustus Sol Invictus is facing criticism for his past actions and current Pagan beliefs, especially after the chairman of The Libertarian Party of Florida, Adrian Wyllie, stepped down from his post on Sept. 30 in protest of Invictus' campaign for a seat in the U.S. Senate.

Invictus admits to sacrificing a goat and drinking its blood but clarifies that he had been on a week-long fast in the Mojave Desert, and it was only done as a thanksgiving to the god of the wilderness. The lawyer insists that Wyllie's allegations are only part of a smear campaign, twisting his words and spinning lies. Invictus says he does not support violence.

Wyllie maintains Invictus holds extreme views and is "the absolute exact opposite of a Libertarian." He also directs public attention to Invictus' departure memo in 2013 where he wrote: "I have prophesied for years that I was born for a Great War; that if I did not witness the coming of the Second American Civil War I would begin it myself. Mark well: That day is fast coming upon you."

Invictus explains that he is not trying to instigate a second Civil War but that there is already an escalating war between the government and its citizens and that it scares people since he is the only one openly talking about it. He also asked, "When are the citizens going to start fighting back?" in an interview.

Wyllie also accuses Invictus of being a white supremacist, stating that many of his supporters belong to white supremacist groups; however, Invictus has stated he is not a racist considering he has four Hispanic children with his Puerto Rican ex-wife.

In a Facebook post on Oct. 4, Invictus announced that the vote to suspend his membership with the Libertarian Party has failed. Invictus' campaign for a senatorial seat will continue.
