Monopoly just got a whole lot more evil with this new limited edition Call of Cthulhu board. The property game gets a dose of The Great One with Lovecraftian themed artwork and special tokens inspired by the mythos of the Cthulhu universe.

Check out properties like his house at R'lyeh and the Miskatonic University to beat other players to acquire new land for worshiping the Old One. The game is currently available for preorder from Entertainment Earth for $39.99. Shipping is expected to commence in November with arrivals in December 2015 — just in time for a very merry Lovecraftian Christmas!

As described in H.P. Lovecraft's first part of the Call of Cthulhu serial, "The Horror in Clay," a small bas-relief sculpture of the Old One offered a horrific first glimpse at what Cthulhu might look like.

"My somewhat extravagant imagination yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon and a human caricature [...] A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings," the first narrator of the short story says.

The sculptor saw the creature haunting him in his dreams, which led to the unravelling of the story of the lord of R'lyeh who lay sleeping in his underwater tomb until sailors awakened him.

According to fans of Cthulhu and board games, no other entity on earth can possibly surpass the evil that is Cthulhu. Except for, perhaps, in a game of Monopoly.

The property and trading game has been around in some form as far back as 1904. It was created by a woman named Elizabeth Magie Phillips and was called The Landlord's Game.

In 1932, the Parker Brothers bought the patent to Phillips' game for a mere $500 and no royalties in addition to selling their own game, Monopoly, which eventually evolved into the game that is loved and hated all over the world today.
