Rumors pertaining to the next-gen Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone have started emerging online and suggest that the company will be taking things several notches higher.

Keeping these rumors and some Samsung design patents in mind, the team at 3DFuture has come up with some concept designs for the Galaxy S7 Edge smartphone.

"The concept Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge features several design attributes adopted with previous phones -buttons, speaker, microphone etc. The phone will be waterproofed as we can see that the usb slot is nicely covered," notes the 3DFuture design team.

The designers' concept of the Galaxy S7 Edge shows off a curved screen for the handset. This is by far the most notable departure from previous Samsung models. The concept depicts the edges of the smartphone being positioned on the lower and upper part of the screen, instead of the side as is the case with Galaxy S6 Edge.

The concept design also reveals that the Galaxy S7 Edge will not have physical buttons on the top and bottom of the device. The buttons will be located on the handset's sides.

An interesting twist to the concept is that 3DFuture has given an unusual shape to the corners of the Galaxy S7 Edge - they are trapezoidal. What this shape does is that it imparts a svelte and quirky design for the smartphone.

The concept design also hints at a wrappable display for the smartphone and an all-metal chassis like its previous iteration. The Galaxy S7 Edge is also shown sporting a bigger 5.7-inch screen which could possibly have 4K resolution support. The designers also envision the device housing the impending Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC and 4 GB of RAM.

The South Korean company is rumored to be working on a 3D Touch-type feature for its next-gen flagships and it is likely that Samsung will tweak the design of the existing Galaxy S6 Edge to accommodate the same.

The concept images from the team at 3DFuture are undoubtedly attractive, but whether the final Samsung smartphone will come anywhere near to this design is another story.
