Sony is officially rolling out its Concept for Android Marshmallow to 10,000 beta testers who own the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow is the latest version of Google's popular mobile operating system (OS) and is slated to start rolling out soon to more devices from various OEMs. Virtually all owners of a modern Android smartphone are eagerly waiting for this update, as it will bring a slew of neat features and improvements to enhance the overall experience.

Sony is among the first OEMs to announce plans for updating select devices to Android 6.0 Marshmallow and the company is now making progress in this regards. Announced earlier this month, Sony's Concept for Android Marshmallow has now started to roll out to Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact owners who got an invite for the program.

"You'll be excited to know that certain quick-fingered Android fans are now currently enjoying the experience of exploring our Android Marshmallow concept on Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact," Sony announced in a new company blog post on Monday, Oct. 19.

The company further notes that this concept Android build will roll out gradually to beta testers over the next few weeks, so it may take a while for all devices to kick off the beta program. Sony will build new features and experiences based on the feedback it receives from participants in this program and will keep users up to date regarding its progress in subsequent blog posts.

Moreover, the company also notes that it saw "fevered interest" for this beta program and it decided to open up some extra spaces at the last minute, just in case more users want to join the party. The company doesn't mention just how many spaces it added, but interested parties can download the Sony's Concept for Android app from Google Play and sign up to participate in the concept Marshmallow build.

"Make sure you move quickly before they're all gone," adds Sony.

When it comes to eligibility, this beta program is available for Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact owners in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and the UK.
