No major game is released in this day and age without a day one patch, and Halo 5: Guardians is no exception.

343 Industries studio head Josh Holmes revealed on Twitter that the game's first patch will weigh in at 9GB. Holmes says the patch is a multiplayer update that includes multiplayer maps. If you want to play online, it will be required you have it installed before you click play.

The inclusion of multiplayer maps certainly helps explain the fairly large size of the update. The game boasts one of the larger install sizes we've seen to date on the Xbox One as well at 60GB.

It's been a big week so far for Halo news. 343 Industries recently posted the game's entire soundtrack on Soundcloud for fans to enjoy, and yesterday they unveiled Spartan Companies. Similar to clan systems in other multiplayer shooters, Spartan Companies allow you to create a group of up to 100 members, with 343 providing forums and a website for company members to stay in touch.

Microsoft will be holding a digital midnight event for fans on Oct. 26 that will include the digital premiere of the Halo: Fall of Reach animated series, exclusive developer interviews and new looks at the game in action. If you want to watch, you can tune in for free via YouTube.
