For true audiophiles, the painstaking search to pinpoint the best sound possible can feel like a never-ending process. It can be that much worse for serious artists or producers who are always in the studio.

Well, Ultimate Ears has what it thinks could be, well, the ultimate experience for the latter group, who could afford to dedicate $999 toward a pair of earphones. Ultimate Ears has announced its Pro Reference Remastered earphones, touting high-resolution studio reference sound built in collaboration with Capitol Studios.

The earphones can be purchased via the company's website in what Ultimate Ears calls "a first-come, first-served" process, in which new orders are slated to ship mid-December, just in time for the holidays.

The second such collaboration between Ultimate Ears and engineers from Capitol Studios boast what the company describes as "proprietary True Tone Drivers," which extend the frequency range and deliver a flat response to 18 KHz. The earphones also mark a commitment to fidelity, vowing that users will be able to experience the harmonic structure and overtones that escape from most earphones ... that aren't $1,000.

While the Pro Reference Remastered earphones target those who work in the music industry and find themselves in the studio often, Ultimate Ears also offers the UE 4 Pro, aimed toward session musicians and home-recording enthusiasts for $399. There's also a range of options for the stage, geared toward specific musicians such as guitarists and drummers.

The real question is, if you're a serious but budding artist who wants the best sound possible but don't quite have a disposable $1,000 to your name ... do you still cough up the cash for your craft?
