A recently leaked Windows 10 Insider Preview build revealed that Microsoft could be adding a dedicated game mode to the operating system which will optimize the computers for playing video games.

The same leaked build, however, also revealed that Windows 10 testers will never be getting the blue screen of death.

No More Blue Screen Of Death For Windows 10 Testers

Participants of the Windows 10 Insider Program will no longer be getting the blue screen of death, which is arguably the scariest thing that users can see on their computer monitors. This is because the blue screen of death appears when a critical error causes the PC to crash, with the possibility that the computer will never recover from the error.

However, the reason why Windows 10 insiders will not be seeing the blue screen of death is not because there is no chance that the operating system will crash, but rather because Microsoft has decided to replace the dreaded blue screen of death with the green screen of death.

Windows Enterprise senior program manager Matthijs Hoekstra teased the switch through a tweet, claiming that people have not yet discovered a huge change in the leaked build. The green screen of death was eventually discovered by Twitter user and Microsoft enthusiast Chris123NT.

Why Change The BSOD Into The GSOD?

The reason why Microsoft decided to turn the BSOD into the GSOD for the Windows 10 Insider Preview build is not just for the sake of a cosmetic change. With test builds of the operating system returning GSODs instead of BSODs, it would be much easier to recognize that the error is happening on a Windows 10 Insider Preview build, and not on a version that is being used by millions of users all over the world.

Why Microsoft chose green, however, is unknown, as the color is not something that people would often associate with something bad that is happening. It could be because the GSOD will only be on test builds, wherein crashes are more of an inconvenience and not something as disastrous as the BSoD on a regular user's computer.

Leaked Windows 10 Insider Preview 14997

As previously mentioned, the leaked test build for Windows 10, which carried the build number 14997, contained the game mode feature that will allow the operating system to adjust the usage of its CPU and GPU resources. The resources will be allocated toward the video game that the user is playing instead of any running applications in the background, making gameplay smoother.

However, it remains to be seen whether the discovered game mode will be included in the upcoming Creators Update for Windows 10, which will be released in early 2017.
