BMW vehicles stand in a showroom in Manhattan on August 01, 2019 in New York City. Blaming slowing sales in the U.S., China and Europe, BMW announced that its pre-tax profit fell to 2.1 billion euros ($2.3 billion) from 2.9 billion ($3.2 billion) in the same period of 2018.

But, is this downgrade temporary or permanent? The German automaker explained that they had no choice but to remove the support for the Apple and Android software models because they moved to another chipset supplier.

The car company further stated that their new partner SoC manufacturer doesn't have chips compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

"The chips built into these cars in the first four months of this year need updated software to be fully functional and offer Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and Wi-Fi capability," said the giant automaker.

The vehicle manufacturer added that they would soon release over-the-air (OTA) updates to ensure that the BMW vehicles without CarPlay and Android Auto support will be corrected by the end of June.

However, this will still depend on BMW's efficiency when it comes to rolling out OTA updates. Previously, the German carmaker also conducted a vehicle downgrade because of a chip shortage.

Of course, the company still managed to provide compensation, giving $500 credits to those who were affected.

Why Android Auto, Apple CarPlay is Important?

MG Motor EU explained that these software models are important for drivers since they allow car owners to use applications even when they are driving.

With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the car screens of drivers can copy the functions of their smartphones.

This means that the vehicle displays can offer music applications, make calls, and send text messages whenever necessary.

Drivers can access all these things using voice commands, allowing them to maintain their focus on the road since they only need to speak to access apps, as well as call and text their friends and loved ones.

Meanwhile, the new BMW i7 xDrive60 arrives as the company's new luxury sedan model.

On the other hand, BMW EV consumers in the United States were provided with free Electrify America charging services.
