Amazon is Laying Off 10,000 Employees, Report Says

According to a recent report by Engadget, the giant retailer, Amazon, is looking to announce a massive layoff, which would likely affect around 10,000 workers.

The New York Times also disclosed that the tech giant is planning to announce the layoffs sometime this week.

So it turns out that Amazon has yet to confirm its plan to let go of thousands of its employees. Engadget did the math, and it looks like roughly 3 percent of the corporate workforce of the e-commerce firm are about to lose their jobs.

On top of that, Engadget also highlights that it is going to be the biggest reorganization of Amazon in its entire history.

Which Amazon Employees Would Potentially Be Affected?

As per the news story by Reuters, an anonymous source close to the matter further states that the massive layoff potentially affects corporate and technology roles in the tech behemoth.

The clandestine source says that Amazon is looking to let go of some of its employees responsible for its devices, which include home security cameras and various Alexa voice-controlled offerings.

Besides technology employees, the tech giant is reportedly saying goodbye to some of its workers in the human resources department. Not to mention that the company is also planning to trim down roles for its retail department.

Engadget reports that the giant online retailer currently has about 1.5 million employees from various parts of the world. And it looks like it is letting go of roughly 3 percent of its corporate workforce in its upcoming mass layoff.

However, it is worth noting that Amazon has yet to announce such a mass layoff.

But despite that, various tech firms are also letting go of some of their workers these days. For instance, the Facebook parent firm, Meta, has also laid off a staggering amount of its employees, or roughly 13 percent of its total workforce.

Given that Amazon has yet to officially announce its looming layoff, it is unclear why the tech giant is going this route. But Engadget notes that the growth of the e-commerce platform has slowed down in the past months. In turn, the giant firm has already started freezing its hiring.
