The 2023 Munich Auto Show in Germany has been the haven for upcoming releases in the world, and Volkswagen did not let this opportunity pass to introduce its latest concept car, the ID. GTI. Yes, the GTI is a familiar name from the company as it is the performance trim that has always been associated with the Golf, the company's renowned hatchback from the late 1970s.

As internal combustion engines are entering the end of an era for Volkswagen, the company's commitment to clean energy expands more.

The world is marveling at Volkswagen's latest showcase at the 2023 Munic Auto Show, as it introduced a significant electric take to one of its best-known performance trims in the market, now in the form of the ID. GTI. While this exact model is only a concept car and would have a 50/50 chance of being produced as an actual EV from the company, it still makes its mark in the world as the future of the GTI in electric form.

According to Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer, "With the ID. GTI Concept, we are taking the GTI DNA into the electric age. It remains sporty, iconic, technologically progressive and accessible, but now with a new interpretation for tomorrow's world: electric, fully connected and extremely emotive."

Goodbye Golf, Hello Electric Hatchback

Volkswagen's 2023 Golf GTI takes on a bold look in its release, as it resembles the electric vehicles of the company, while still retaining its ICE, equipped with all the modern technology the company has to offer.

However, it is not meant to stay for long, as the company's latest ID. GTI concept is set to make its mark in the future, with the company teasing more performance under the three-letter trim to arrive for its EVs.

Volkswagen's Electrification

In the massive shift of the world to electric cars, Volkswagen is among the first to introduce its take on EVs, particularly with the ID lineup that brought its futuristic-looking vehicles to the market. The company is set to expand more of its clean energy cars under the same lineup, with the ID.7 being the next-in-line EV, centering on an electric luxury sedan with 700 kilometers of range.

The company is also looking to build a new EV battery plant in Ontario, Canada, soon to bring massive opportunities for the local scene. It also saw massive support from the Canadian government, with the authorities investing as much as $9.7 billion for the company to use for their needs in creating this EV battery plant, one that would help boost VW's production and development of clean energy vehicles.

Volkswagen already introduced various cars under the ID line, including the iconic electric van, the ID.BUZZ resembles its iconic VW Type 2 or the Kombi van. Now, another Volkswagen icon is getting an update on the current trend for vehicles, with the Golf GTI seeing an electric version of itself in the future, in the form of an electric performance hatchback, the ID.GTI.
