Nintendo has formally declared that it will not be participating in the Gamescom 2024 expo, widely recognized as one of the most significant gaming events in the world, attracting publishers, developers, and industry associations from all over the world.

After E3's cancellation last year, Gamescom has become a major substitute. Nonetheless, Nintendo's latest declaration indicates that it will not attend Gamescom this year.

"Gamescom is a great event, and each year we evaluate whether Nintendo should participate or not. After careful consideration from all perspectives, we've made the decision not to be present at Gamescom 2024. Players will have opportunities to try out Nintendo Switch games at other events throughout the year," according to a spokesperson of the video game giant, per TechRadar.

Nintendo Delays Switch 2 Release

Attracting sizable crowds worldwide, Gamescom 2024 provides a venue for launching new games, hardware testing, and product showcases from developers, per Esports.net. Hence, many speculated that Nintendo would showcase its next generation console, Nintendo Switch 2, in this year's Gamescom.

However, Nintendo's withdrawal statement did not mention the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Nintendo's upcoming console is rumored to be released in 2025. Some reports suggest it will be a bigger-screen hybrid device akin to the original Switch.

Notably, Nintendo plans to release the Nintendo Switch 2 next year to prevent scalpers by guaranteeing a sufficient quantity of launch stock, as reported by TechTimes. The original Nintendo Switch's limited supply, which sparked a booming scalping market upon its introduction in March 2017, served as the reason for this tactic. Nintendo is probably keen to stop such supply problems from happening again.

The Kyoto-based company's next-generation system might ship as early as March 2025 and could not fall within the company's upcoming fiscal year. A release beyond March 2025 would be surprising, given the buzz over the almost seven-year-old Nintendo Switch's successor.

Nintendo Switch 2's Rumored Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 is the subject of much speculation, but definitive information on its release date, cost, and technical specs is still unknown. Some reports alluded to possible additional features for the Nintendo Switch 2, such as better performance while docked, longer battery life, and more storage. Rumor has it that the upcoming console will have a bigger screen and be more portable.

An exciting possibility is that Nintendo and Samsung are working together to use OLED panels to improve display quality. Patent applications have hinted at future features, such as a detachable dual-screen gadget that evokes memories of the DS and 3DS.

The reports of possible collaborations with Nvidia and AMD have also piqued the curiosity of many Nintendo devotees, increasing the excitement around the Nintendo Switch 2.

While fans hoping for Nintendo Switch 2 news may be disappointed by the company's absence, Gamescom 2024 is anticipated to include major video game industry players like PlayStation, Xbox, Bethesda, Activision, Electronic Arts, Riot Games, and even more.
