Ryan Reynolds has confirmed that he is Deadpool in the upcoming movie from 20th Century Fox. The mercenary with a mouth is finally getting his own film, something that should have happened years ago after X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in 2009.

Who is Deadpool?

He's a mercenary who is very smart with his mouth but unfortunately chose to go through a military experiment. The experiment saw a team of scientists using Wolverine's DNA to create the perfect soldier, but it left him scarred and with severe mental problems.

We understand the film will be directed by none other than Tim Miller and the script will be written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese. In addition, Lauren Shuler Donner will tag along as the film's producer. Filming is expected to begin in March 2015 and the release date is February 2016.

Now that we know for sure that a Deadpool movie will be produced, the big question is whether or not the film would stay true to the character, or if 20th Century Fox would instead focus on getting more viewers.

For the movie to stay true to the character, it would have to gain an R rating. From what we have seen from the test project, this doesn't appear to be the case, but fans are requesting it. Since The Punisher and Watchmen, we haven't seen a comic book film with an R rating, and that is quite disappointing.

Today, majority of films from the comic book scene are comedies with simple stories that are not long lasting. The last comic book movies with a storyline that kept moviegoers coming back years after were the Dark Knight Trilogy.

We can only hope 20th Century Fox at least follows in the path of the recent X-Men movie with Deadpool, but does not make it too serious since Deadpool is not a serious character. He's a man with mental issues, and because of that, he will do crazy things without caring. This makes him very unpredictable and feared, though some fail to realize what he is capable of until it is too late.

Additionally, his healing factor is far more impressive than Wolverine's. If he got his head chopped off, he wouldn't die, but Wolverine would.
