If you want to learn how to tell if you need a new laptop, you have to watch out for signs. Fortunately, some of them are more obvious than others and tell you exactly what you need to do.

A woman uses a laptop on April 3, 2019, in Abidjan. - According to the figures of the platform of the fight against cybercrime (PLCC) of the national police, nearly one hundred crooks of the internet, were arrested in 2018 in Ivory Coast, a country known for its scammers on the web, has announced on April 2, 2019 the Ivorian authority of regulation of the telephony.

With laptop deals going crazy for the holidays, this guide will help start you off on finding the best one for you. So read on and learn about the top warning signs that say you need a new laptop.

Heat, Heat, And More Heat

Heat is the worst enemy of all electronics. With high-enough temperatures, chips can actually fry-and sometimes even make you feel like you can cook eggs on top of an overheating computer.

One of the tell-tale signs of an overheating laptop is loud fans, as per TechRadar. Loud fans mean that they're working harder than they're supposed to just to keep the laptop cool enough. Most of the time, they should be quiet enough to not be distracting. But if they start sounding like mini jet engines, then that's how to tell if you need a new laptop.

Other symptoms of an overheating computer are unexpected freezes and shutdowns. Modern electronic devices are built to "protect themselves" from heat by shutting down when things get too toasty. But at times, things would get bad enough to cause things like BSOD (aka "Blue Screen of Death) whenever the thing freezes, writes LifeWire.

If you feel like your computer is shutting off or freezing in its tracks for no reason, that's the time you start looking for repairs-or deals for new laptops.

You Spend Far More Time Waiting Than Actually Working

You turn your laptop on, then wait several minutes for it to boot. You launch a browser or program, that's a few minutes more. You type the website address, another two or three minutes pass. You open a file, even more waiting ensues.

Slowdowns are an obvious sign that your laptop's hardware is just old and due for retirement. This is a sign that it is now struggling to run modern programs and even operating systems (such as Windows 11).

If you rely a lot on your computer for your job or schooling, long waiting times are a massive problem. You spend way too much time waiting for things to work than actually working. Face it: your time is far more valuable than you think.

Get something newer, that's the shortest answer. Older laptops are hard (or at times even impossible) to upgrade. Newer ones are still not as upgradeable as desktops, but they're far more manageable.

How To Tell If You Need A New Laptop? Just Check The Specs

When did you buy your laptop? How long has it been? If it's been over five years since, then that's another big sign.

Computer technology moves so fast these days. Just take a look at hardware companies like Intel: they launched their 11th gen processors in March, then followed up with 12th gen Alder Lake just eight months later.

Laptops are, by nature, almost impossible to upgrade-aside from their RAM, which is a feature only a few ones actually offer. An old machine is an inefficient, far slower machine. Maybe the slowdowns you're experiencing are just the result of outdated hardware.

There's an easy way to check the specs of your current machine. Find out the model, and look it up on the manufacturer's website. If it has fewer than 4 cores, less than 8GB of RAM, and a mechanical hard drive (the last one is extremely important), you have to replace it. Bar none. Anything less and it will be quite hard to work with.

Afterwards, look for a modern laptop buying guide. It will guide you on what modern specs you'll need for your new machine.
