There's always been an elegant simplicity to Nintendo Direct. Instead of waiting around for major trade shows or press events, Nintendo cut out all of the fluff and simply announced its new games and updates directly to the fans. It was the brainchild of late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata—and, following his tragic death earlier this year, many fans began to wonder what exactly would happen to the series he helped create.

Back in September, Nintendo assured that the Nintendo Direct videos would indeed return. Unfortunately, that's where the details ended. The publisher gave no word on what would be featured or who would host it—Nintendo would only confirm that the series would make a comeback at some point.

Now, just over a month later, Nintendo (via the Wall Street Journal) has released a few more details on the series' return. More specifically, current Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima not only confirmed that he would act as the series' new host, but that Nintendo Direct would return later this year.

The news comes alongside Nintendo's announcement that the company would reveal its first mobile game on Oct. 29. Details on what will be included are still scarce, but given the timing, one could assume that Nintendo would go over its holiday or spring 2016 lineups.

That being said, with Nintendo's relatively sparse holiday offerings, it's not all that hard to imagine this new Nintendo Direct serving as an introduction. Fans haven't seen or heard much from Kimishima since he became the company's president, and it would make sense to introduce Iwata's successor to the larger fanbase, especially after how popular Iwata was before he passed.

One way or another, it looks like it won't be that long a wait: Nintendo Direct is slated to return sometime later this year.
