Microsoft announces the release of a firmware update for the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book devices to finally deliver a more permanent fix to several issues that include screen flickering.

The screen flickering issue is so far the most reported issues to date with a number of users turning to social media and to Microsoft's online community in order to gain attention.

In an earlier report at Tech Times, it was found out that some users were able to find a temporary fix to the flickering screen. These users learned that the issue came as a result of enabling the so-called Hyper-V feature.

Nick Karasev, a member of the Microsoft community, noted "The Windows logs also show complaints from Hyper-V that the 'GPUs are not compatible and this configuration isn't supported.'"

A fix tutorial was later on posted on the same thread which promises to deliver a temporary fix to the issue.

Microsoft now rolls out a permanent fix which seeks to address not only the screen flickering issue but also to bring other fixes in order to deliver a full change log. Both the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book are getting a permanent fix as both showed similar display issues.

For the Surface Pro 4, Microsoft is updating the HD Graphics 520 driver with a new v20.19.15.4308 version in order to solve some display issues that include screen flickering.

Other updates to the Surface Pro 4 include the display audio driver (v8.20.0.659) which enhances compatibility to the new graphics driver version; the Surface Embedded Controller Firmware (v103.855.257.0) for enhancing the stability of the system; and the Surface Pen Settings driver (v10.0.302.0) in order to increase its Windows 10 functionality.

Likewise, the Surface Book is getting the same update to its HD Graphics 520 driver which aims to address the infamous screen flickering issue. Parallel to the Surface Pro 4, the update on the Surface Book is said to be in v20.19.15.4308.

Other similar updates to the Surface Book include the display audio driver (same version with the Surface Pro 4); the Surface Embedded Controller Firmware (v88.855.257.0); and the Surface Pen Settings (same version with the Surface Pro 4).

Apart from getting similar updates with the Surface Pro 4, the Surface Book is also getting an update to the System Aggregator Firmware (v88.853.258.0) which aims to enhance the user's keyboard and trackpad experience.

The Surface Pro 4 has a price range of $899 to $2,699 while the Surface Book ranges from $1,499 to $2,699. Customers can get their devices either from the Microsoft Store or from Amazon.
