We get a new "James Bond" movie every few years and with a new Bond film comes a new Bond girl. At the moment, we have four - Naomie Harris' Moneypenny, Lea Seydoux's Madeleine Swann, Stephanie Sigman's Estrella and Monica Bellucci's Lucia Sciarra for "Spectre" but let's take a step back in time to 1981 and "For Your Eyes Only's" Melina Havelock. Was she the inspiration for Marvel's Elektra?

Played by Carole Bouquet, Havelock is the daughter of two British Secret Service operatives, whose assassinations became the driving force that transformed her into a killer. She is based off of Judy Havelock, one of the characters from a short story by Ian Fleming.

Elektra (who real name is Elektra Natchios) might be based from Havelock since the Marvel character also became a killer herself only after her father died. There's also the fact that the two are Greek (Melina is only half Greek, though). In addition, Havelock's parents died aboard a yacht; Bill Sienkiewicz and Frank Miller then depicted the murder of Elektra's mother in "Elektra Assassin," which came out in 1985.

Going by these things, it's easy enough to see why Havelock could be assumed by some as the inspiration for Elektra. Still, they are wrong. Havelock is NOT the inspiration for Elektra.

How so?

Havelock could not have inspired Elektra because the Marvel character debuted in 1964 in "Daredevil # 168." The Bond girl made it to the big screen in 1981 when "For Your Eyes Only" was shown.

Who inspired Elektra then? Sand Saref from The Spirit by Will Eisner.

"For Your Eyes Only" was the 12th James Bond movie and Roger Moore's fifth outing as Agent 007. "Spectre" is the 24th film in the series. Daniel Craig's fourth round as the MI6 agent scored $73 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. box office and is predicted to bring in at least $250 million in domestic ticket sales. It is not expected to exceed "Skyfall's" box office performance but a lot has yet to be seen in the next couple of weeks once the film completes the next 40 percent of its international release.
